Why teach biotechnology in schools?

Written by The Protein Man | Sep 24, 2018 2:10:24 PM

Biotechnology is the fastest growing occupation among industries, expected to grow 11% by 2022. Teaching biotechnology through the applications of biology, chemistry, engineering research, and manufacturing techniques is critical to the future of creating products and services that improve the quality of human life.

Biotechnology includes many areas of study that can be used in nearly unlimited ways across many occupations.

  • Medical Scientists
  • Biological Technicians
  • Medical and Clinical Lab Technologists
  • Biochemists
  • Biophysicists
  • Biomedical Engineers
  • Microbiologists
  • Epidemiologists
  • Research and Development Scientists
  • Process Development Scientists
  • Biomanufacturing Specialists/Operators
  • Bioinformaticians

Teaching Materials & Hands-On Biotech

G-Biosciences has teamed up with renowned scientist, Ellyn Daugherty, to bring you educational materials and supplies to better teach biotechnology and get students excited about the many areas in life where they may apply what they've learned.

The video below highlights the importance of not only teaching biotechnology in schools but teaching hands-on biotechnology. As Dr. Laurence Clement states, “There’s nothing like learning hands-on in a lab…nothing replaces it!”

The video features the personal experiences of leading biotech professionals as they describe what inspired them to enter the biotech field. This is followed up by the experiences of students who partook in the hands-on learning experience in biotechnology, including one student who had no idea what to do for a career until he got this hands-on biotech experience.

Teaching Biotech Can Stop an Impending Crisis

The video ends with a somber note, “A Crisis is Brewing,” that highlights the failings of not allowing students the experience of hands-on biotech learning, but proposes a solution to the leading biotech companies out there.

This is one of the many reasons G-Biosciences has partnered with Ellyn Daugherty to bring her biotechnology course and lab experiments to the classroom, as well as our company putting together kits with the exact supplies and tools needed, like in our rAmylase kits, to make teaching biotech much easier and more engaging.
